APHROSE a.k.a Joanna Mohammed is an independent Indie-Soul artist from Toronto, Canada. Since her debut EP JoannaMohammed was released in 2009, she went through many harrowing and difficult challenges contrasted by happy and joyous moments. These life-changing experiences inspired Joanna to honour her family history and take on the artist name of APHROSE. In her own words, Joanna explains the significance of this name. “I’ve been raised and taught by some of the strongest, most loving women in the world. My mother's birth name was Aphrose and I chose my new name to honour her and the many powerful women in my life who give me strength and purpose.”
APHROSE will be releasing her first single (produced by Scott McCannell, Giordan Posterino & Jim JR.) under this new artist name in June of 2017 and the full EP in September 2017. The record will reflect her new outlook on life, love and overcoming hardships through the vantage point of being a fully actualized woman hitting her stride and finding her true voice as a writer and vocalist.
Joanna has a reputation in Toronto for her powerful and soaring RnB vocal stylings fronting and supporting the many bands and artists she performs with. But for most, this forthcoming release and grand step into the role of APHROSE will cement her as a true artist among the best the city has to offer.
